Distance is relative....like Karen says it is 3.5 km.  The two sites are not right next to each other.
But if time is no factor, then walking from the ET to Louvre and can be lovely. No matter which path you take you will find yourself in a very nice area.
If you walk along the river the path is very easy~the promenade along Quai d'Orsay is wide.  You can cross the Alexander III bridge and pass by the Grand Palais and Petit Palais, then continue through the park to the Place de la Concorde which is so impressive and beautiful.  Then walk through the Tuileries gardens to the Louvre.

If the Louvre is your goal, then you might want to know that the Louvre itself is a day's adventure!
So if you intend to do it all.....wear comfortable shoes.
We just returned from Paris and did this exact walk.

Hi Lois....I have done this several times particularly on the left bank. As you get closer, don't be fooled by how close it looks - it is  really not "just around the corner." But do make the walk, you will see many nice neighborhoods will be happy you did.

It's about 3.5 kilometers between the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. It can certainly be walked in less than an hour - and you'll see some of the most beautiful sights in Paris.
